The Government is committed to a fair and lasting resolution to the legacy of Indian Residential Schools. An important part of this process is working closely with former students, their families, and communities in support of projects that promote healing. This is done primarily through programs offered by Health Canada, and through the funding of the Aboriginal Healing Foundation which is key component of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement.
Health Canada, in partnership with Indian and Northern Affairs Canada provides services to former IRS students and their families through the Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program.
The Indian Residential Schools Resolution Health Support Program (IRS RHSP), previously known as the IRS Mental Health Support Program, provides former IRS students and their families, regardless of status or place or residence, with access to emotional health and wellness support services. A total of $97.5M has been allocated by Health Canada for this program.
