The Metro Vancouver Urban Aboriginal Strategy Steering Committee (MVUAS SC) was created following an extensive stakeholder and community engagement process. The MVUAS SC has a total of seventeen members, of which four are from various levels of government and thirteen from the urban Aboriginal community. The MVUAS SC focuses on improving socio-economic conditions of the Metro Vancouver Aboriginal community through partnerships with community organizations, the non-profit sector, and various levels of government.
A two year Strategic Plan developed by the MVUAS SC in July 2008 identified two community priorities:
In October 2008, the MVUAS released a Call for Proposals and Project Concept Papers for 2009-10 that resulted in the funding of 18 projects in the 2008-09 fiscal year. The MVUAS SC is currently forming Working Groups with proponents, various levels of government and other potential funders to explore opportunities identified in the Project Concept Papers.
